French Photographer Anne-Laure Maison photographs illuminated windows at night in cities around the world, and creates beautiful collages from them. Above is Prague.
I also really loved this ELLE cover of Michelle Williams, it’s the limited edition subscriptions cover for December 2011 and photographer Alexei Hay captured such a beautiful, soft side to her in the shoot.
Some more Miranda July…
Miranda July is an artist, writer and filmmaker, and I’ve been fascinated with her writing for some time. Here is one of my favourite passages from one of her most poignant short stories, ‘The Man On The Stairs’:
The second he threw on the lights and pulled out his gun, or his knife, or his rope, or his heavy rock, the second he held the gun at my head, or the knife at my heart or the rope around my neck or the heavy rock over my chest, he would know. He would see it in my boyfriend’s eyes: You can have her, just let me live. And in my eyes he would see the words: I never really knew true love. Would he empathize with us? Does he know what it’s like? Most people do. You always feel like you are the only one in the world, like everyone else is just crazy for each other, but it’s not true. Generally, people don’t like each other very much.
One of Miranda July’s pieces in her work Eleven Heavy Things at the Venice Biennale.
There were sculptures placed around the show for visitors to pose with, so the work was only completed when the photographs were taken of people interacting with them.
Most of them featured accompanying text like, “What I look like when I really mean it”, “What I look like when I’m lying” and the one above: “We don’t know each other. We’re just hugging for the picture. When we’re done I’ll walk away quickly. It’s almost over”.
